News

December 2003: We are currently offering a Christmas Special: Customers who purchase WinPilot before year's end receive free updates until July 1st 2004.

December 2003: We have made available versions of our desktop companion product WinPilot XP available free of charge on our web site. This includes the glider version and powered airplane version. The desktop companion can be used to learn and  practice using the program at home, as well as to plan tasks, and send them to the Pocket PC version of Winpilot.

November 2003: We have added Winpilot Design Studio to our web site. This is a place where our customers and developers can work together on creating new features of WinPilot. Most of the current news and developments regarding WinPilot are also posted there.

June 2003 We had a chance to test the new generation of anti-glare screen protectors for iPAQ and other Pocket PCs, and we were truly amazed by how well they work. We can strongly recommend them for all Pocket PC users. They can be ordered in the USA from www.craggyaero.com, or in Europe from www.crabb.biz.

The new Task editor in version 4.5 works great together with function "cone". I am a lazy person, hate typing more that absolutely necessary. The new Task editor is very nice, typing made short and easy but you can save some time by using the "cone".

Imagine you are planning a yoyo flight, you enter task in the new editor but see that distance is too short. You can look at a map (if you have one handy) or use pan on WinPilot to look for turnpoints in the vicinity of points programmed in, go back to task editor, enter new points, check distance etc. Or you just click on the cone symbol to activate cones, pan to your original turnpoint, drag the cone on new waypoint, see if task distance displayed in upper left corner of map screen is what you wish for and declare to your logger. That's right - new turnpoint is already in your task editor, it replaced one you typed in.

Same can be used in flight - if you fly a training flight, one based on "real" as opposed to virtual turnpoints. You get to a turnpoint but see that nice cloud street extending another 20 km/mi or more. You could use GoTo, or add to task function, but it is not easy to see the new task distance, not to mention type something while cruising at 200 km/h. Touch/activate the cone instead, move one you are about to fly over to next available turnpoint, distance is already displayed, task is programmed, all calculations are via the new turnpoint.
