Compatible Hardware

WinPilot software requires a Pocket PC like HP iPAQ  running Pocket PC 2002, Pocket PC 2003, or Windows Mobile 5 operating system. Examples of such devices are: HP iPAQ 47xx, 55xx series, HP iPAQ 41xx series, HP iPAQ 22xx series (see www.hp.com for more details), Compaq iPAQ 31xx, 36xx, 37xx, 38xx, 39xx series, ASUS 632.

Note that HP iPAQ 19xx series (like 1935 or 1945) do not have a serial port interface built it, and therefore are not compatible with GPS devices that output data on a serial port.

The following NMEA gps sources are compatible with WinPilot:

WinPilot Advanced is compatible with all GPS sources that can output NMEA GPRMC and GPGGA sentences.

There are two types of WinPilot license:

1. For any GPS source (license is based on the serial number of the Compaq iPAQ).
With this type of license, a single Pocket PC can be used with unlimited number of different GPS devices.
This license type is available ONLY for Compaq devices, it is not available for non-Compaq devices.
Examples of compatible devices are: most of the Garmin and Maggelan units, virtually all IGC approved loggers, and all other instruments that are capable of outputting GPRMC and GPGGA sentences.

2. For any Pocket PC device (license is based on the serial number of the WinPilot-compatible logger/flight computer). Currently, the following loggers/flight computers output serial numbers (and pressure altitude that can be used by WinPilot):

This type of a license allows using different Pocket PCs with a single GPS device.

WinPilot Pro requires one of the following:

Note to LX 5000 and LX 160 users: please enable only the following sentences: GPGGA, GPRMC, GPLX1, and LXWP_. Make sure GPRMB, and other sentences are disabled.
